This is Derezzed Abstraction. Years after Sam Flynn has taken over Encom he creates a new digital frontier in hopes of reuniting with his father. In this world programs recieve an identity object (IO) which replace the identity disk from the two previous movies. Every IO is unique both in terms of appearance and it's abilities in battle. The IO often consists of several pieces that together make up the identity object. In most cases, the more pieces ones identity object has the more ablities that program can use in battle. For instance a program with a single piece IO can us it as a sword while his enemy who has a two piece IO can use both a shield and a sword, giving him the advantage.
Most programs tend to hide the amount of pieces ones IO has by placing the pieces close to eachother making it all look like one piece. The prime reason for this is to appear weaker so that you can catch your opponent off guard by using an ability it didn't expect you to have. The programs within this frontier are seperated into different classes. The classes are as follows I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X. Classes I - IV are considered the weakest and are often disregarded in the frontier society. Classes V - VIII are mostly military and IX is the man who's in charge of it all. There hasn't been a class X program yet. This brings us to the second reason why programs tend to hide the amount of pieces of their IO. As mentioned above, classes V - VIII are chosen to become military and to escape this fate programs within that class pretend to be a lower class.
The story follows Canis, a class III program who sets out to fight the leaders of the frontier. On her journey she meets a young class V soldier who aids her in her quest.
